Directions: From Puduraya, head south for Cheras via the Imbi junction. At the Jalan Sg Besi junction, turn left into Jalan Pasar.
Info / Insights: Looking for a single piece of 600-ohm resistor, a BNC to UHF connector adaptor or a replacement button for your rice cooker? Pasar Road's the place to go. Jalan Pasar is regarded as KL's electronic and electrical marketplace. It is kind of like Sim Lim Tower in Singapore. Except, only a few shops stock quality and original stuff.
Many of the gadgets found on Pasar Road are either cheap imitations or worse; knockoffs of cheap imitations. There is a ready market, for many Malaysians consider low price to be more important than quality or reliability. But then again. For example, the Astro decoder's remote control sold there are so cheap that it is considered a bonus should one ever last more than 6 months.
Take a walk around the street and sample the loud distorted music being blasted to demonstrate the speakers and amplifiers on sale. You will soon realise that customers there aren't exactly sticking out their ears for quality audio. If the cheap sound systems don't scare you, check out the 'flea market' on weekends for even more dodgy stuff by the roadside. Like the notorious China Girls operating from the (now closed) food court, everything is negotiable there.
Still, it is hard to find another place where you can find so many vendors selling such a variety of electronic and electrical goods, all lumped into one convenient place. The corner, former Star Cinema is now transformed into a mini-mall called Kompleks E-Mart.
If you are walking about, keep in mind the electronic, electrical and hardware shops spread out to adjacent Lorong Yap Hin and Jalan Landak.
Most shops there are closed by 6pm. Only a handful shops and street vendors are open on Sundays.
