Directions: From Jalan Tun Razak southbound, keep left and bypass the SMART Tunnel and ramp to the MEX Highway on the right. Take the new ridiculously-designed Kg Pandan roundabout and head for the Jalan Pasar junction. Keep going straight and turn left at the next traffic lights into Jalan Peel. Plaza 393 is at the junction of Jalan Shelly.
Info / Insights: Jalan Peel used to be a sleepy neighbourhood.consisting mainly of government quarters and homes of civil servants. The section near the junction of Jalan Shelly has now been transformed into a busy commercial square. Carrefour appears to have positioned itself strategically, as new apartments and condos now populate the surrounding areas.
Occupying almost the entire ground floor of the Plaza 393 Shopping Complex, the French hypermart became an important component in the new retail precinct comprising of Plaza 393, Queen's Park and Queen's Avenue. Sitting atop of Plaza 393 are three blocks of 12-storey buildings with 462 apartments. All three properties were developed by the TSI Group (http://www.tsigm.com/).
Many of the popular eating places along Jalan Peel are still there, but they now have to compete with several newcomers across the road.
