Doing The Hentian Hop:
Is it that time of the year again? A relative or a friend asked if you can drop her at Hentian Putra for the balik kampung journey by bus. You go like "Hentian What?". Well, fear not. In this latest episode, we take you on a Hentian Hop to the far-flung city bus stations. The journey begins at the aging Puduraya Terminal, infested with rats, taxi touts and pirate buses. The video winds its way through Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Raja Laut to Jalan Putra where The Mall is. We swing by Hentian Putra near PWTC and proceed via Jalan Kuching to the god-forsaken Hentian Duta. The person who approved locating a bus terminal in such a relatively remote place ought to be chained to the exhaust fume-filled boarding steps of Puduraya for life. Even the seasonal, half-hearted Bukit Jalil bus terminal is situated across an LRT station.

Warning: You may be interested to know that the entrance to Hentian Putra is a Money Trap. Once you enter the road you can only exit via the car park even if you don't intend to park. Is RM 3 just to drop off a passenger with heavy luggage. The Hentian Duta is just as mercenary. No 10 or 15 minutes grace for someone dropping or picking up an elderly passenger at the doorsteps. You enter for 10 seconds, you pay RM 1!

Puduraya is officially for southbound, Singapore, northbound, Thailand, Genting Highlands taxis and anywhere else. In Malaysia, anything goes. During the festive rush, the terminal is transferred to a car park in Bukit Jalil (video coming soon). Hentian Putra (Stesen Bas Putra) is officially for buses plying the East Coast states like Terengganu, Kelantan. Hentian Duta is supposedly for northbound buses.

If you are not interested in any of the torture stations, this video is great for armchair sight-seeing. On the morning it was filmed, Kuala Lumpur's sky was a in rare, deep turquoise shade.

Captured in 24p HD with the Panasonic Lumix LX3 and presented in widescreen 16:9 SD.

Playback Help: Mycen Videos are mostly presented in high quality widescreen 16:9 standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD), both in hi-fi stereo. By default, the embedded player here loads a standard quality resolution to accommodate users with slower connections. To switch to higher quality and clearer playback, click the HD or HQ toggle button on the bottom right of the player after pressing play. The button should appear once the video begins playing and will turn red when you hover over it. After clicking, it will remain in red. The transition to HQ or HD may take a few seconds. If things get stuck, just reload the page and try again.

Playing HD or HQ requires a reasonably fast internet connection and reasonably competent hardware for smooth playback. Firstly, let the player's pink loading line fill completely. If the video is still jerky when you replay after that, try closing other programs on your computer to free up resources. Even then, heavy Internet traffic during peak hours might still slow down some connections. If all else fails, simply revert to normal quality playback by clicking on the same button again.

In order to watch HD smoothly, you ought to have a newer version of Adobe Flash plug-in installed on your browser. Go here to download the latest version if your browser is not doing it automatically. Enjoy!
