Directions: From the Loke Yew intersection (formerly Bulatan Edinburgh), take the road where Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka is located. Drive along Jalan Dewan Bahasa and keep right when you see Menara MAA on your left. Take the right-most turning as you go up the ramp to Jalan Istana. Circle Jalan Bukit Petaling and Tupai Tupai is on the right just before re-joining the junction where Menara MAA stands.
Info / Review: Tupai Tupai is billed as a Malay restaurant. It certainly looks like one with pseudo attap-thatched Minangkabau roof and kampung-style dining in wooden gazebos. Notwithstanding that; the cuisine is actually very cosmopolitan. The menu includes Malay, Western, Japanese, Chinese and steamboat dishes. Prices are reasonable and the food is good (not spectacular). Nevertheless, the attraction of the place, along with uppity Cafe Cafe nearby, is the somewhat unusual dining environment each presents.
There is a house band or resident singer at night. At one time there was a singer belting out Lobo's hits, while at another time a traditional group played complete with gamelan and angklung. Ample parking is available inside its large compound. The restaurant shares the land with the Persatuan Wartawan Melayu (PWM) building.
Tupai tupai or squirrels used to roam free in the lush forests of Bukit Petaling where government quarters and colonial bungalows interspersed. The cozy atmosphere has changed a lot since the early 80's with new highways and roads now criss-crossing everywhere. The once endearing landmark of the area - Wisma Putra - has since moved to Putrajaya.
