Directions: Corus Hotel is located along busy Jalan Ampang, between Suria KLCC and Ampang Park.
Info / Insights: The strategically located hotel was previously known as Ming Court Hotel. During the 70's till the early 90's, the hotel faced the Selangor Turf Club (Race Course). On weekends, bookies would turned their rooms at Ming Court into ad-hoc operations center as mobile phones were not in existence then. The historic horse racing venue was to be replaced by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and the KLCC Park.
In 1992, the traffic jams, horses, punters, bookies and the century-old race course (established 1896) moved to the current site in Sg Besi. Excavation work for the massive Twin Towers project began in 1993.
Beginning from October 1997, home-grown MUI Group (http://www.muiglobal.com/) invested in (and subsequently acquired) the UK Corus & Regal hotel chains (http://www.corushotels.com/) . The Jalan Ampang hotel was refurbished and re-branded as a Corus hotel. In Malaysia, the other Corus hotel is the Corus Paradise Resort in Port Dickson (http://www.corusparadisepd.com/).
The hotel's proximity to KLCC made its location even more attractive. It is also now served by two nearby underground train stations. Corus KL has 388 guestrooms with a variety of F&B outlets. The Dondang Sayang coffee house still serves its famous Hainanese chicken rice. The hotel also has a ballroom and seven meeting rooms for functions.
