Cook your own fish by the roadside
Kuala Lumpur, 16th November, 2008 – Hon Kee Porridge has been serving its famous porridge since 1959. The rickety shop in Chinatown opens from around 5am to 7am daily. Located near the junction of Cecil Street (See See Kai, now Jalan Hang Lekir) and Petaling Street, the eatery's top draw is the raw fish porridge. You cook your own raw fish slices by emptying it into a bowl of piping hot porridge. The stall also serves chicken, minced pork, pig innards porridge and a popular crispy fried pig intestines side dish. However, the traditional accompanying side dish of yau char kwai has to be ordered from another nearby stall due to an odd self-enforced, anti-monopolistic policy. Which is fine except the char kwai guy seldom ever wakes up on time...
