Exclusive Sneak Peek of The Duke's Duta Link:
After ten long years in the making, the entire stretch of D.U.K.E. or Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (Lebuhraya DUKE) is finally ready. It will be opened to the public this Thursday at 6pm (30th April 2009).
With the completion of the Duta Link, motorists can now travel from Ampang or Setapak to Damansara or Petaling Jaya (or vice-versa) without going through congested Jalan Mahameru and Jalan Tun Razak. From both directions, the expressway also connects to the Karak Highway to Genting Highlands and Kuantan.
In this special preview arranged by KESTURI (the highway operator), I drove from the vicinity of Jalan Pahang to the newly completed Duta Interchange. Approaching from the direction of Ampang, the video starts near the turnoff to Karak Link.
Along the way (at 2:00 to 2:52 on the timeline), you will see the costly and complex "Jalan Khalsa Section" where the elevated section (above Jalan Ipoh and Sentul) is shared with TNB reserved land. The highway builder erected special monopoles to replace the conventional pylons.
A new set of bi-directional videos of this stretch will also be available soon to complement the earlier videos:

Playback Help: Mycen Videos are mostly presented in high quality widescreen 16:9 standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD), both in hi-fi stereo. By default, the embedded player here loads a standard quality resolution to accommodate users with slower connections. To switch to higher quality and clearer playback, click the HD or HQ toggle button on the bottom right of the player after pressing play. The button should appear once the video begins playing and will turn red when you hover over it. After clicking, it will remain in red. The transition to HQ or HD may take a few seconds. If things get stuck, just reload the page and try again.
Playing HD or HQ requires a reasonably fast internet connection and reasonably competent hardware for smooth playback. Firstly, let the player's pink loading line fill completely. If the video is still jerky when you replay after that, try closing other programs on your computer to free up resources. Even then, heavy Internet traffic during peak hours might still slow down some connections. If all else fails, simply revert to normal quality playback by clicking on the same button again.
In order to watch HD smoothly, you ought to have a newer version of Adobe Flash plug-in installed on your browser. Go here to download the latest version if your browser is not doing it automatically. Enjoy! |
