Kuala Lumpur, 26th January 2009: The Sun Turns Into A Crescent as the Moon partially eclipsed it at 5:46 pm Malaysian time today.
I photographed this awesome and rare sight from the Titiwangsa Lake Gardens. The solar eclipse took place from around 4:30 pm and ended at about 6:55 pm. It would not have been possible to view it with your naked eyes, anyway. Even with the Olympus E-3 cranking at 1/8000th of a second at f 22, it was still too bright. I had to add a special ND 8 filter to lower the sun's intensity. There was no total eclipse as the moon's trajectory arc was off center this time around. If you missed this rare eclipse today, you can catch it again in year 2026.
Happy Lunar New Year and Year of the Ox !
Exposure Info: Olympus E-3, ISO 100, f22, 1/8000 sec
